Sharing every little minute detail of my life

So, one of my favorite area “Mom bloggers” made me stop and think today. Is it bad to share every detail of your life on the internet? Is there a point to it?

Furthermore, if you “edit” like I tend to – are we just putting out an image that’s perfect and unattainable for most people. I have to say, I feel this mostly in craft blogging (Mom bloggers are another subject altogether) but haven’t you seen perfect pictures of people’s houses, followed by adorable pictures of their kids and LOVELY finished craft projects and just wanted to wretch?

Really? Are they perfect?

However, back to “Mom blogging” – sometimes I see an angle there that is also disturbing – where they air all their dirty laundry, telling you WAY too much information and giving you a bit too keen of an insight into their lives.

To be honest, I’m probably part of the first part. I don’t put in the blog when I’m sick of my kids (very often) or when I fight with my husband (almost never) or when we’re late on bills (not telling). I write about things that make me happy. Taking my Mother’s line on communication, really do people want to hear the bad stuff?

So, here’s my question to you…Mom bloggers, craft bloggers and readers and lurkers. Do you like the ugly side of life? Or do you WANT to envy the person who’s blog you’re reading?

  • I think I like a balance between the two. I want to know the things that are going well and the things that a write does well, but I also want to feel like I can relate to the writer and it is hard to relate to someone who is perfect all the time.

There is a line though when too much personal and private information is shared and I end up feeling a little uncomfortable reading it.

  • I agree that there should be a balance. I don't mind reading when someone is having a bad day or is ill so I can say a quick prayer for them. On the other side, I do get annoyed with the 'perfect everything woman' blogs because I feel very inadequate and that I'm wasting my time on the computer when should be making a seven course dinner while I complete 20 quilts for charity and my children finish up their master's thesis' at the table in my immaculate dining room. So I skip those and go look for a game on Pogo.

  • I would say a balance of both, no one if perfect even if their blog makes them look that way. I tend to wander away from the "perfect life" blogs because they are unrealistic. I don't need to know all the little stuff either though, just enough for them to be human living a normal(ish) life.

  • I am trying to find balance. I can't air my grievances with in-laws, because they read the blog. But I feel I need to be authentic, especially when I'm struggling with mommyhood.

I want to read someone's blog and think-man I could totally realte to her, or I could hang out with her, or I can learn something from her.

  • Thanks! You know I do think it's a balance – it's hard to know when to quit talking and yet, you don't want it to be boring or not "you".

I also agree with all of you about the "perfect" folks – SCARY! ha ha

  • Some people definitely share waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much… I do like to know how people are managing to make lemonade with the lemons that life gives them…. and I KNOW the perfect ones are hiding something terrible….

  • My blog portrays me as perfect (it does, doesn't it?). I save the actually truth for FB!! LOL… it all hangs out there.
