Well the good news is I stitched all weekend – the bad news? I didn’t get around to posting my stitches and projects until today.
My first excuse is that I don’t think I really LOVE the fly stitch. I did end up liking my second example and I’ll play with it more in the weeks to come – maybe I’ll find my peace with it. Do you find you “like” some stitches better than others?
Anyway, the good news was that I finally found an example of the stitch below (the one that looks like a branch) and really liked it. I’m sure I’ll embellish further, but it’s a start.
So, should I rip out the other one? Or I could build on it? I’m thinking maybe flowers either direction off the center? Not quite sure yet.
When I got bored doing the fly stitch, I worked on my cross stitch piece, which is almost done. At this point I’m fixing mistakes and finishing it up. Can’t wait to be done and have this one framed.

That teal green on the pink is a fabulous color combination.
The kitty is so cute, it is perforated paper? I’ve never used that, is it hard to keep from wrinkling or tearing?
Love the kitten! I do like the fly stitch. I like fast and easy stitches that let me concentrate on something else while I’m doing them–which is why I like kantha stitching so much.
Nope, it’s just a Mill Hill kit – you basically stitch on paper and then it comes with a frame. I have to admit I bought one more of these kits and I don’t love stitching on paper. It just feels funky. but the kitty is for my daughter’s room, so what can I say!
I have a hard and fast rule in this “no-rule” cq game. I don’t take out stitches. Once it’s in, it stays! If I don’t like it, I keep embellishing it until I do. =) I love your branch, of course. I can see so many possibilities with your other seam, too. Don’t give up! The cat is also cute.
I do find that I have favorite stitches: fly stitch, buttonhole and blanket, stem and outline, herringbone… the stitches that I know cold and can stitch easily without having to remind myself that they exist or how to wrap the thread to make them.
I also have stitches that are (or have been) the bane of my existence. French Knot and Bullion stitches were both in that category until they finally started to make sense to me last year. Now they are both in my favorite category instead! I would never have predicted that, I tell you!
I really love what you did with your teal fly stitches on the pink ground. It seems very delicate and fern-like to me, and I am in awe of how evenly sized and spaced they all are! Gorgeous curving lines, too. I sure hope this stitch decides to make friends with you because I sure find it to be a useful one!
